My Experience of buying a car from CARTIME - Bury

This website is not owned by Cartime and has been created so that I can share my experience of buying my car from Cartime. I was thinking of a trust pilot review but would not be able to share the full experience.

This is the first car I have bought in 45 years so I am totally new to the process.

In addition to the car I bought their 3 year service & MOT and the 3 year warranty.

I bought my car, a Ford Kuga FX68XCO, on this day.  The sales person could not locate the log book so filled in a V62(Application for a vehicle registration certificate) and advised me to take that to a post office to get the car taxed.  When the post office tried to sort out the vehicle tax, it could not be processed with the message "The Post Office are unable to complete this application.  Please contact the DVLA on 0300 790 6802 for further information.

I rang the DVLA, explained the situation and was told I would have to post the form and it could take 4-5 weeks.

I rang the the sales person and he told me that if I go online to check the taxed status of  my vehicle, it is showing as taxed so no reason to worry about it.  I mentioned to him that the website clearly states that the tax does not stay with the vehicle if it is sold.  He said he would ring back.

He did ring back within 5-10 minutes saying Cartime could get the vehicle taxed for me. This did not sit right with me and decided to decline the offer.

At this point I left it with them trying to locate the log book.

I realised I had an untaxed car on my drive and I was not the registered keeper and was worried that my insurance may not be valid.  I sent an email to the Group Sales Manager(GSM) asking for him t0 arrange for my car to be picked up.

I caught a bus, as I could not drive the car, to Cartime Bury for a meeting with the GSM.  The Outcome of the meeting was that they would pick up the car and loan me a car while they sort out the log book.

The car was picked up on the same day and the loan car was delivered a few days later.

Finally got a call from Cartime saying they had obtained the logbook, transferred it to me and taxed the vehicle.  I got an email from the DVLA confirming it was taxed under my name.

Lessons Learnt

1. Do not hand over any cash until the log book is available and the legal transfer can be completed.

2. Do not drive a car you have just bought without having it taxed.  The salesman should not have let me drive it off is it was not taxed so therefore illegal.

3. Don't assume that a salesman knows the law regarding  tax/insurance and the legalaity of driving a car on the public highway.
